Gun Violence Prevention

As a former federal and state prosecutor, I know that our nation is long overdue in enacting commonsense gun safety measures.  We cannot keep suffering through mass shootings and have politicians in Washington refuse to act. As a nation, we have a moral responsibility to fix this problem.

Unfortunately, Lee Zeldin has not only refused to fix this situation, he is making it worse. Rather than vote in the best interests of Suffolk County families, time and again Zeldin has voted with the gun lobby against expanded background checks and other commonsense safety measures. He even refused to support a bipartisan measure that would have prevented people on the terrorist watch list from purchasing firearms.

We can do better, and in Congress I will work to institute stronger criminal and mental background checks for all gun purchases and a ban on assault weapons.  I will also work to close the gun show loophole and ban straw purchases.
