Independence Party Endorses Dave Calone For Congress

Lake Grove, NY — Today, the Independence Party of Suffolk County announced that they have decided to support Long Island businessman and former federal prosecutor Dave Calone in his campaign for New York’s 1st Congressional District. The endorsement of the Independence Party is expected to give Calone around a 4% vote advantage in the November election against tea party Republican Lee Zeldin.

“I am excited to announce that the Independence Party is endorsing Dave Calone in his campaign to represent New York’s 1st District in Congress,” said Frank MacKay, Chairman of the New York Independence Party and the Suffolk County Independence Party.  “Dave Calone has a proven record as a prosecutor, as a businessman, and as Chair of the Suffolk County Planning Commission. The dysfunction in Congress has grown to alarming levels which is why we need someone with Dave Calone’s broad real world experience. His background makes him the best candidate in this race to fight to create jobs, protect our environment and deliver the results that Long Island families need. As a resident of the 1st Congressional District myself, I would be proud to call Dave Calone my Congressman.”

“It’s great news that the Independence Party has joined with nearly every current Democratic elected official who lives in our congressional district in endorsing my candidacy,” said Calone.  “Democrats and Independence Party members understand that if we want to beat the Zeldin-Trump-Cruz agenda in Washington, we need to unite behind a candidate with a strong record protecting our environment and creating jobs, and that is why I am running for Congress.”

The Independence Party joins the growing list of local endorsers who are supporting Calone’s campaign, including nearly every current Democratic elected official in New York’s 1st Congressional District, the Long Island Environmental Voters Forum, the Brookhaven Town Democratic Committee, and a variety of labor unions and other organizations.
